NEW LOUGH NEAGH NAVIGATION SUB COMMITTEE

NEW LOUGH NEAGH NAVIGATION SUB COMMITTEE

A new Navigation Sub Committee was recently set up by the Lough Neagh Partnership. The committee is made up of the main stakeholders involved in boating and water recreation on the Lough and includes, boat clubs, Lough Neagh Rescue, Local Councils, RNLI, Lough Neagh Sand traders, The Lough Neagh Fisherman’s Cooperative and the MCA. The remit of the Committee is to improve the health and safety of people boating on the Lough, through an improved navigation structure, better marker system and adequate sustainable dredging. Gerry Darby the Strategic Manager of the Lough Neagh Partnership noted.

“Lough Neagh is the biggest inland lough in the United Kingdom and Ireland with busy boating traffic from the sand extraction and fishing industry and yet it does not have a basic navigation authority. This new group is a much needed new structure which will try and address the safety needs of the boat users through specific projects and the attraction of new investment into the Lough”.
