Protect Lough Neagh – Support the NAP

Over the last two years, Lough Neagh and its river systems have been devastated by recurring major algal blooms. This has had a huge impact on the fishing, tourism, and water extraction industries around the Lough.

The algal blooms have been caused primarily by an excess of nutrients—such as phosphates and nitrates—entering the water from agriculture, wastewater treatment, and the agri-food industry. Other contributing factors include climate change and invasive species.

Minister Muir’s Nutrient Action Plan (NAP) is a practical and timely effort to address this nutrient surplus, particularly from the agricultural sector. We are asking people to show their support for the NAP by signing this petition.
