A Lough Neagh Cultural Evening

Saturday 8th June 2024 @ 7pm

The Marina Centre, Ballyronan, Co Derry

First screening of short film, ‘The Eel Fisher’ by local filmmaker, Méabh Ní Dhoibhlin. This 20-minute documentary gives a brief insight into the long-standing tradition of eel fishing on Lough Neagh. Through intimate conversations we find out what this ancient tradition means to its fisher-people and take a look at some of the issues threatening both its survival and the survival of the lough.

The film will be introduced by well-known author and academic Liam Campbell, author of Lough Neagh: An Historical, Environmental and Cultural Atlas, and will be followed by a trad music concert featuring some of Ireland’s finest talents all with strong Lough Neagh connections and compered by broadcaster and writer Lynette Fay.

Ríoghnach Connolly and Lí Ban, Barry and Laura Kerr, Brendan Mulholland and a host of local trad talent from around the four shores of the lough will be coming together to draw attention to the plight of the lough and the need for urgent action on a night which promises to be one to remember.
